Grow up

When Faboulista was around, I used to vent a lot about my daily life as a business student. Well, that period of my life has come to an end and so I found myself on the bandwagon of career hungry graduates desperately looking for a job. And I found one in my industry and company of choice and no, it is not fashion related. 

So that I clear this misunderstanding one last time, I do not plan nor want to work in the fashion industry. Therefore, I reserve fashion as a weekend and after 5 sort of hobby and interest.

That being sad, the first dilemma that I encountered on my first day in the corporate world was that transitioning between college student/fashion eclectic affectionado and corporate maven was a tricky situation. I owned no pencil skirts, no tailored trousers or anything remotely that wouldn't land me in  office corner of shame.

Luckily, I owned one pair of skinny jeans that technically could be categorized as pants. With a subtle brocade pattern, somehow they fit the bill, and was I pleasantly surprised when on my first day of work I wasn't shamed but rather complimented on my "work appropriate attire.  I might have aired a bit towards casual Friday, but paired with a black jacket, they let me go through the door.
So now I'm fully in.

 Countless blog posts have been written on transitioning fashion between seasons. 

Those weird months where its neither too hot nor too cold, the rain has not yet made up its mind whether it would like to stay or not, neither has the sun for that matter, and therefore you might just find yourself stepping in a big puddle of mud. 

My take on it is that a girl really only needs one thing: a good old pair of ankle boots .

Good for those sticky not sure whether it will rain moments, perfect when you want to give your legs a chance to see the sun. 

No need to fret about the weather when you are prepared.

Be Gentle, Be Yourself

Yes I know I'm far from being a high school-er,  but if you think about it   

"High school is like the training wheels for the bicycle of real life.”

Except in high school, I was neither a nerd with my head stuck in a book, nor the athletic chick on some sports team, nor the peppy cheerleader, nor the high school slut. 

I was nobody and I belonged to no group.  I followed no one except myself.

 And to this day, this is still the one cardinal rule that manages my life. 

The Glitter Lesson: Black is not boring

Lately I've fallen in love with black. The darkest of the dark stark to match my soul.

Not just Gothic, nor romantic, not just classy nor vampy.

Finally I have grown up to see black for what it is. Not boring nor conventional!

Well how could it be when it comes in such wonderful things such as feathers and tulle, satins and chiffon. 

Black is the epitome of chic.

 And so I've made my peace that black will never be just black as long as I wear it! 

The Glitter's Way to Wearing black is simple: Just mix textures and style notes! 

When all else fails just add some sparkle.

 

The Making of a Love Story

February, ahhhh, what a confusing month. 
Never did like it much, even with all that cheesy Valentine's day charade of a holiday.
For me February has always been the month of 'Get out of here cause I'm ready for spring'.

So in the attempt to get my head in the springy game, I rolled out of bed this morning in my new jean shorts courtesy of Free People. The perfect transitional piece to carry me through to summer. Wear them now with tights and a furry vest, then later with a loose eyelet flowy top and wedges.

But to prove to you that my heart is not made of ice,  I'll leave you on a romantic note; one Free People calls Roshambo, a short  film  about a love story set in Brooklyn, starring actor Christopher Abbott of the hit show ‘Girls,’ alongside model Sheila Marquez.

You know those days you rush out of the house, where you quickly throw you newest acquisitions from your former favorite high-street fashion store and hope the look was exactly as you pictured it when you bought it.

 As you quickly walk the downtown streets rushing to your appointment, you somehow have a thought of doubt that maybe you needed something more, or maybe something less.

 Then from out of nowhere, you hear the scream "Baby you're a star !"

As starry as the stars on my ears!

Let it rain

I love my city Vancouver...every raindrop that it pours, every windy cold moment, every corner you nestle in for cover.

Some call it romance, others call it tragedy, for me it's just a state of being. Neither wet nor cold, neither discomforting nor irritating, rain has become a simple part of the Vancouverite's life.

At the end of the day,  if you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain!
